Question over "other-ranks" duties in the RFC

I know officers and such maintained the distinction of being qualified for aerial duties or observation. I was wondering if the "other-ranks", being mostly for ground duties, had any opportunities in performing aerial duties? I've read somewhere that perhaps a few were air-gunners in two-seater units. Was that a fact or were the duties strictly on ground?

Cheers!
