Hello,
Last Friday, with friendly volunteers, I managed to recover (few) parts of Bristol F.2b F6195 of 20 Sqn shot down on the 10th November 1918, meaning it was the very last RAF aircraft lost in WW1, with the last Canadian airmen killed during the war.
The grand-nephew of 2nd Lt. Alexander William MacHardy crossed the ocean to attend the dig. It was the first time (and the last) it involved the official recovery of a WW1 in Belgium, moreover superviewed by archaeological service of Wallony.
It was a very special event at Froidchapelle, connecting directly relative with their ancestor.
The result of the dig will be published in an official report and in my forthcoming book in September.
We will remember both Alexander William MacHardy and
William Alexander Rodger on the 10th November 2018, for the century of their fall, with a very special fly-by...
More to come.
Best regards
