100 years ago today

Sorry for the delay in posting.

At the tail-end of last week, a charmer ran into my car while I and my family were dining out. Typically, he failed to leave a forwarding address, leaving me, the innocent victim being penalised. According to the insurance company the car's a write-off, the cost of repair being almost as great as the value of the car and my local garage reckons it'll be £1,000 to repair what they can see, let alone what's been damaged under the bonnet.

So, muggins here, has been spending time looking for a replacement which has not been as easy as I'd hoped. Still, seen one that I like, put down my deposit and will pick it up next week when I've sorted out my finances.

Hopefully, normal service will be resumed later today.

Along with the Gatling gun, RPGs and flamethrowers!

Had planned to upgrade from the X-type later this year or early next, so not exactly unplanned, just a bit premature. Always fancied a Jaguar XF, so an early birthday present to myself!

Graeme,

My sympathies for the regrettable misadventure--the same happened to me
two years past and to my wife a year ago, though in her instance the blighter
hit and ran in the midst of heavy traffic. We can update the Great War watchword
to "Beware of the Hun in the sun...and on the roadway and parking lot!"

Anyway, luckily nobody hurt. Hope the Bobbies nail the miscreant.

I doubt the perisher will be brought to book; no CCTV cameras and the impact wasn't severe enough to set of the car alarm, so nobody would have taken any notice unless they happened to witness the accident as it happened. If anybody had seen the incident, I would have hoped they would have left details (a note under the wiper blade, etc), but at 7.30 on a Friday evening, everybody would have been busy settling down for the weekend.

Just galling that I have suffered three incidents in the last year, all when the vehicle has been parked at the side of the road; none was witnessed and the innocent party is the one to suffer. Still, should get a few quid from the insurance company although sad to let go of a car that's done only 60,000 miles in 14 years (I've done about 8,000 of those). The book value of a car that age is based on a vehicle having done 130,000 miles plus, but c'est la vie.

I know how you feel Graeme.
I had someone drive into my front offside mudguard on my beloved Toyota 4Runner in a Woolworths car park which also resulted in a jammed passenger side door. Of course no note!

Another recent occurrence at a Machinery Display a Rural Fire Service Truck reversed into the rear door & wheel arch of the Toyota & drove off. However a couple of my mates were able to identify the truck & a visit to the Fire Captain resulted in the driver being held responsible & RFS Insurance covered the damage.

I feel your pain, Barry.

Unfortunately, no witnesses and no CCTV footage, so the insurance company says write-off, regardless.

As I say, I had planned to upgrade within the next year, so this has merely forced the issue, but I would dearly love to get my hands on the miscreant and let him know how I feel about what's he's done and what he's cost me.

I'm off to a formal event in a couple of weeks' time, so I'll see about posting pics of me doing my James Bond impersonation, stepping out of the new car in my dinner suit (if I remember to take it this time!).
