German WWI maps

I had to good fortune to get 4 maps on eBay last week. They are all approximately 310 x 460mm unfolded and 1/80,000 scale. They are folded twice and the folded size is 150 to 155mm x 230 to 235mm. All for vary about 5mm overall.

As near as I can tell, only 1 is WWI and the other 3 appear to be printed prewar or originally drawn prewar. Date info I can find are as follow:

Douai Druck 1914
Cambrai 6 08'
Ameins Druck 1905
St. Omer 9 07'

The dates are as I have written and all appear in the lower right corner.

I am posting a low res copy of the Douai map.

I am only guessing, but the size appears consistent with later maps for carry in aircraft. The map pocket in the Pfalz DIII I have drawn from factory photo, crash photos and factory general arrangement drawing happen to just fit this size. Coincidence, who knows?

It comes from this set, I have it almost complete but for three maps...
All these were official pre-war maps slightly redrawn in some case, but NEVER showing trenches or destroyed villages...
This said, I don't know if they were used by airmen, but maybe...

That is great you have all but 3. Impressive! There must be approximately 100 in the full set.

It seems logical that aircraft map pockets were sized to fit these maps since they were printed prior to the war.

Best Regards,

Tony
