My RB3D Bloody April Centennial Campaign Story

I've got Red Baron 3D installed since last year and figured now it would be interesting to do this now. With centennial of Bloody April upon us I've made a campaign that set for that month and year and will play it over day by day on the actual date and report it here. The goal is to see if in the game I could make it through the month as a RFC airman minus the actual danger that was involvedI've made a profile for for a Lieutenant William A. Newell and is stationed at No.40 Squadron.Lets see if he has enough luck to make it in Flanders at this time.

Report Date: 3.4.17

Flight Start: 10:15

Weather: Sunny

We've took off at around 10:15 on an offensive patrol to a rail yard near Bethune. The flight was led by Captain Parker along with wingmen Phelps and Perlman.Once we've went over Bethune we've spotted high above about 10,000 feet German two-seaters.We gave chase but was bounced by a flight of Albatros D.III's.My first encounter with the Hun was meet with me being separated from the flight to evade and come around to give chase. The others were brawled with the other Hun but I then saw a Hun scout separated from the fight.

I've gave chase and fired a few bursts but managed to miss.I've closed in to get a better scope of him and lay a burst into him.Suddenly then I was pounced at my tail and was subsequently damaged.I've turned off over the front and evaded his fire.Still somewhat separated I found the Albatros again and lay more rounds to him, severely damaging him. This lead us over the Hun frontlines.I was putting more rounds into him until I was struck again at the tail, this time wounding me and severely damaging my Nieuport. My oil pressure was low and needed to land in my lines quickly.I've barely done so and was swiftly tended to.I observe as Captain Parker downs a Hun nearby soon then.In the end Captain Parker and I each claim a Albatros scout but with the loss of Phelps in the initial fight.

Lt. Newell is back in service after a day and a half of medical recuperation. His homecoming is met with an early afternoon offensive patrol to sortie.

Date: 5.4.17

Flight Start: 2:25 P.M.

Weather: Sunny

It wasn't long after my return to the squadron that I was to make my second sortie. We was once again to make an offensive patrol over a rail yard near Lille. We set off before 2:30 with a flight lead again by Captain Parker along with Stuart and Little. It wasn't long over the front till we encountered three Albatros scouts at our right. We turned to fight and immediately we both fired at one another. It was four against three and in short there were individual fights.I had to find my query but so far couldn't find a individual Hun to fight.

Eventually I found a lone Albatros but it was in strong pursuit at one of my men.I couldn't tell how it was but in short I made no haste to stop the Hun.I closed in and despite my constant fire he wouldn't tail off.I saw my wingman lose a wing and in a horrid sight saw him nose over and into an exploding crash. In anger I gave chase to that Hun and put more rounds in him.In short time I've managed to set him alight and he crashed not long after.I only saw one other of my flight still in the air, Captain Parker. There was only one Hun left and we gave chase.Despite being damaged he had quite a bit of fight in him.He several times fired upon the Captain and I try many times to close in.Round after round I fire into him all the while he was hot on his tail and pumping more rounds into Parker. Then all of a sudden the Albatros is set alight and he noses down to a crash.

As we were in our lines and with half of our flight loosed we made back home.Stuart and Little were great men despite my short time knowing them. They were here a little before me but their absence made an effect in the mess and squadron as a whole. We've got word that the Huns we've downed were some of the best on the other side and recommended for commendations.

As it turns out in the mission I managed to down the Richthofen Brothers which kind of puts the fun out the campaign further down
