Question Maybe a silly question...

.
... but why do you think it might have been a training accident?

.

Very well know photo

"This totally wrecked Albatros D III 2479/17 was photographed
by Flieger Abteilung 46 to provide a crash record (?)
the serial number is on the wheel cover-The rudder carries the
albatros company logo and the designation O.A.W D3
Lower wing crosses are whight outlined;an OAW trait"

cf page 43 WDF Special Albatros D III
(there is another photo of the same albatros taken from another angle )

The question is what is a crash record ??? a crash test ??

Post "Crash record"...

.
I admit that the term is confusing. The word "crash" itself gives no hint, if the aircraft crashed because of technical failures, pilot error or combat damage.

A crash record is - in my opinion - a detailed report about what exactly happened to machine and pilot when the aircraft hit the ground and if it was possible to repair the damaged machine (the latter is of no importance in this special case)...
