"Billy" Crowe was the driver of the vehicle that crashed on 2 July 1918. C E Foggin and
Owen Scholte suffered injuries to which they both succumbed the following day; three other passengers in the Crossley tender were detained in hospital. At the Field General Court Martial, Maj Crowe was given a severe reprimand and lost seniority for driving a car against orders. After a month on the ground, he took command of No 85 Sqn.
