Two Early B type Photos

Hello All,

Currently on ebay at :

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Flieger-Flugz...kAAOSwFdtX0bIY

and :

http://www.ebay.de/itm/I368-Foto-WW1...oAAOSwFV9Xz-S1

are photos of Aviatik B 152/13 and LVG B.I 619/14.

I assume that the Aviatik machine is a P14. Any confirmation would be welcome.

Also if any readers have any information on the identity of aircraft B 152/13 to B 159/13 or B 610/14 to B 618/14confirming the manufacturers of these aircraft, I'd be very greatful if they could post here.

Regards,

Clint

You can't get much more prewar than the top photo, with its policemen in Pickelhauben keeping back a throng of little girls in pinafores. And it's even a good picture of the plane! Ransom

Hello Bruno,

Thanks for the correction. I'm just wondering if it is a DFW B.II rather than B.I as I have serials either side of code B.619/14 with both 606/14 and 607/14 as well as 634/14 and 636/14 as DFW B.II.

I also think that the machine in your photo is probably a DFW C type both from what I can see on the tail and the fact that it is armed.

Regards,

Clint

I Think that you are right for DFW C

On the photo of Peter Gray and Thetford one can see the letter 'C' on the rudder ...(I thought was the book was a more reliable source..)
The same source says that the DFW B II was built during 1915 ?
but their photo looks like closely to yours..
so..

Cordialement
Bruno

Arrow I would recommend...

.
... to have a look at the other photos of the same seller. His "collection" is of a higher quality than the usual stuff you can get on eBay.

Hello Volker,

Yes the seller does have some nice photographs, as also does the seller of the following two early B Types.

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Or-Foto-Flugz...wAAOSwgmJX1Wfb

an Aviatik P14? B.132/14

and

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Or-TOP-Foto-F...0AAOSwOdpX1V5R

This time an actual LVG B.I I hope. Possibly B.269/15 although the years not shown on the photograph. However, B.269/15 would tie in with known serials.

Regards,

Clint

Hello All,

Just to note another ebay seller currently has some interesting pictures of early B type machines including Aviatik B 119/14 showing the personal name 'Tarnopol' with FEA 9.The link is:

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Foto-WK1-Flie...IAAOSwPCVX2~Bg

Interestingly enogh I have also seen a photo of Aviatik B 267/13 'Trottel' with seemingly identical lettering. Does anyone know if this machine too was assigned to FEA 9?

Besides the training machines of FEA 9,the seller also has an interesting series of Naval aircraft photos.

Regards,

Clint

Hi all,

Getting back to the DFW B's, from my (limited) understanding, the B.II was defined by having 2-bay wings, without the banana-shape, and the fin and tail plane of shorter chord, with the leading edges being curved.

Images of aircraft from the 600/14 series show 607/14, 610/14, 624/14 and 627/14 as 3-bay aircraft (therefore B.Is?).
Aircraft that may be 634/14 and 636/14, and (clearly) 644/14 show the 2-bay arrangement.
Curiously, there is an image that shows a 2-bay DFW with B.636/15 plainly visible on the fuselage. I have this serial as being in between Albatros B.II's.
