Fighting America (and Felixstowe) Flying Boats
Today Aeronaut is happy to announce publication of The Fighting America Flying Boats of WWI | Volume 1 by noted aviation historian Colin Owers. We plan to follow this new book with Volume 2 in a month or so. Our original idea was to publish the two volumes as close together as possible; however, we delayed Volume 2 for a good reason – so the illustrator, Bob Pearson, could add more color profiles that we expected, something we thought readers would enjoy.
Although Aeronaut has published books on Allied aviators, these volumes are the first Aeronaut books on Allied aircraft. Colin has done extensive research on these aircraft that enables him to tell the story of their complex development starting with Curtiss and continuing to Felixstowe and the US Navy. The result is a massive project that was so large it had to be done in two volumes totaling more than 700 photos and drawings and approximately 550 pages! Volume 1 has 355 photos and drawings, 27 color profiles, and 272 pages. It includes a color cutaway drawing of the H-16 and scale drawings of the Felixstowe F.1 and F.3. Related types like the Porte Felixstowe Baby and the Norman Thompson N.T.4 are covered in the book, and the Felixstowe Fury will be covered in Volume 2. The book is available through Amazon; also check your usual trade outlets.
