Turbuckles

Aviators, engineers,

from what material the turnbuckles were commonly made during the WW1 or later in twenties?

Brass, or just steel? Is there any drawing, or dimensions available?

Thank you!

Hi

I believe turnbuckles were mainly steel like the wires, but I stand to be corrected. As for British Turnbuckles, below is page 87 from 'The Aviation Pocket-Book 1918' by R. Borlase Matthews, that lists them.

Turnbuckle barrels are frequently made from C464 'Naval Bronze' which is corrosion resistant and quite high strength. The ends are made from steel. I have seen early German barrels made from steel.
