Any reccomended reading on early air-WWI air developers?

Hello I've just watched a documentary on YouTube on Thomas Sopwith and am very eager to learn more on him.I am also interesting in learning on Anthony Fokker and other wartime/earlier developers of flight. What books do you all recommend on these individuals?

I've found this book on Thomas Sopwith but wonder if its still a good read?

http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Luck-Auth...thomas+sopwith

Cheers!

Vintage Warbirds No 6 " Fokker Fighters of World War One " by Alex Imrie and " Albatros D.II & D.III Oeffag " published by JaPo from the Czech Republic are both pretty informative.

The book "Taube, Dove of War" by Col. John A.de Vries is also a great source for early WWI aviation.

"Pure Luck" is certainly worth getting, but only a relatively small part of it deals with Sopwith's aircraft designs - there is probably more on his yachts and sailing than on aircraft. Many early aircraft designers were also keen sailors...

The Harleyford books on Sopwith (Sopwith - The Man and his Aircraft) and Fokker (Fokker - The Man and the Aircraft) have a fair amount of information.

There have been several additional bios on Fokker - Weyl (see this thread before you read it, and Dierikx (Fokker - A Transatlantic Biography)

Also, Flying Dutchman is a Fokker bio at least partially written by him.

There's a bio of Bleriot out there as well but I don't know it (Elliot, B.A. Blériot: Herald of an Age).

"Pure Luck" is a decent read. There's also a biography about Harry Hawker, who went to work for Sopwith before the war and became the company's chief test pilot soon after. I think this book is pretty easy to find and very reasonably priced: Blackmore, L.K. (1993), Hawker: A Biography
