Books

Hello groupe
I'm in search of book titles with information on WW1 aircraft building techniques
Has anyone written such a book. There are a few books I see in the forum are any of those talking about the facts. I think like most of us here we want to go into a build with as much knowledge as possible . Blue Swallow Aircraft has some informative videos great tips and information there. I just want to cover all my bases knowing my decisions at the beginning will not go to waste with the sections built in the final stages.
The project I'm putting together is a Sophwith 1 1/2 Strutter. Thanks and yes I'm reading like crazy all the information I'm finding here on this wonderfull site it's a vault of information.

Well, you need to read books that were published in the era that you are recreating ie 1910-20 England and France. They do exist but you will have to search them out. No single book will tell you everything and reading is just the start. You need to apprentice with someone that knows how to build what you want to build and then you have to build things. Consider scrap parts as the cost of admission to new skills and knowledge.

Regards
John

Well the search continues in the mean time I'll stick to the things I'm sure about in the construction I'm a woodworker by trade for the last 40 years with a full facilities shop I'm anel at perfection and have the use of CNC technology Replicraft plans are beautifully drawn as well as a set of original sheets. Next research project is a look into books of the area I wish I could apprentice is there any one out there building reproductions in the Monterey Bay area contact me
Thank you

Hi;

You might like WWI AERO MAGAZINE for building and plans. Check their website for all their available back issues.

Cheers; FM

You should also take a look at the Memorial Flight website. Plenty of detail photos of their strutter (Sop.1B2).
