Identifying Joystick

Hi All,

Appreciate any help identifying what aircraft this joystick came from.

My step-grandfather flew reconnaissance in WW1 and kept it (and the propeller) as a memento after crashing on the return from a mission.
He got lost after returning across the English Channel, and crashed attempting to land in a field after running out of fuel.
He died in 1984 - but I recall him saying it was an Avro?

many thanks!

Hi Barks,

I raised a similar enquiry some time ago and received a number of useful responses.

Have a look at the thread and compare your joystick with the two I have:-

There are a number of similarities in the sticks don't you think?

Regards

Thanks so much.
It does indeed look similar. It is interesting to see that it is actually half of the actual stick. I'll be seeing it again next week and will see if it also has any markings on the metal part - or if it has flattened sides like the shorter one in your first picture.

A few more pictures and details.
There are no numbers or identifying markings and it is surprisingly light.
It is about 17 inches long in total, with the wooden part being 14.5 inches so it looks to be a match for the Avro 504 in the link - front cockpit.
