Albatros D.V 2135/17 Photo

Hello All,

Currently on ebay at http://www.ebay.de/itm/Selt-Archiv-F...item27fb2a350c

there is a nice photograph of Albatros D.V 2135/17. Is anyone aware of the unit and/or pilot.

The same seller also has a further Albatros with shooting star marking photo at :

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Selt-Archiv-F...item27fb2a3b89

and a Pfalz D.III at :

http://www.ebay.de/itm/Selt-Archiv-F...item27fb2a3b89

There appears to be a serial number at the top of the fuselage strut.

Any further information on any of the aircraft shown in these photos would be welcome.

Regards,

Clint

Hi Clint,

the first one should be from Jasta 33 (I have this picture also in my collection).

The second picture is from Jasta 18. Left the Albatros D.V of Johannes Klein, right the Albatros D.V of Harald Auffarth.

The Pfalz is from Jasta 4......

Regards

Rainer

Hello Rainer,

Thanks very much for the speedy reply. You have answered almost all my questions.Do you have a view on whether the number on the strut of the Pfalz is a serial number?

Regards,

Clint

Hi Clint,

Thank you very much for posting the links! I regularly look on eBay for photos such as these, so I don't know how I missed them.

Thank you very much also to Rainer, for identifying the Jagdstaffeln they belong to, and even the pilots of the Jasta 18 Albatros D.V's.

When I clicked on the third link it brought me to the listing for the second photo, the Jasta 18 D.V's.

Regards,

David.

The number on the strut of the Pfalz is a serial number (1397/17).
You can also find this pic in "Pfalz Aircraft of WW1" (Jack Herris).

Tha Jasta 18 Albatrösser were also published in "Jasta 18 The Red Noses" (Greg VanWyngarden). There are additional pics of Klein's plane there, too.

Hello Bauernopfer,

Thanks. I thought I'd seen it before. Now I know where!

Albatrösser!?!?

Hey Bauernopfer, an Albatros is no horse (1 Ross = 1 steed, 2 Rösser = 2 steeds)!

I'd prefer the following plural of Albatros in English:

One Albatros
two Albatros
three Albatros
four Albatros.....etc.

Regards

Rainer

Oh, PULEEEEEZE, Rainer, one albatros, two albatri. After all, the 56 Squad spoke English, surely they would know!

....But no, this is also rubbish for me according to this.

Rainer

LOL

Sorry Rainer,

Didn´t know that till now. Thanks for your advice.

So the plural of
Roland is not Roländer
and
2 of the most beautiful planes every build (D.IIIa) are not 2 Pfälzer,
I suppose?

But now all jokes aside....
I will take this topic more seriously next time.....

Regards
