von Richthofen's 425/17

For those who are interested, it was reported in the papers on the weekend here Down Under, that the Imperial War Museum's 425/17 collection (engine etc) is being loaned to the Melbourne museum, circa April this year, as part of the 100 year ANZAC commemorations. Meaning that together with the Australian War Memorials 425/17 collection (including MvR's fur boots), Australia will be custodians of the greatest amount of relics pertaining to this WW1 icon.

Cheers Russ

Not only that but the IWM has admitted that it was Australians that brought him down!

It would be nice if, after the loan period, if the Melbourne Museum would loan their WW1 item's,(including MvR's effects), to the IWM, then possibly selected European museums during the centenary years of WW1. (Russ, do you know if the loaned effects of MvR include his "lucky" blue dog
mascot charm that the IWM had in it's collection?
Best regards Strutter15

MvR's "lucky blue dog charm"? Never heard of that one. Please, do tell.

Sorry don't know anymore - it was just a few paragraphs in the Sunday paper with a portrait of MvR.

Cheers Russ

Couldn't have been very lucky for him considering....

While I'm not an MvR authority by any stretch, neither am I ignorant about the topic, having read just about all the usual sources pertaining to him. I don't recall EVER coming across a reference to little blue dog bobble that he carried for good luck. Sounds too much like a yarn to me.

Question The blue dog (or cat)...

.
Maybe it is this tiny thing. I found the photo in the book "Richthofen - The man and the aircraft he flew" written by David Baker (paperback, 128 pages, printed in the early 1990's, ISBN 1-871547-06-7). I found the following photo and description on page 66.

Is this what you are looking for?
.

I'm still skeptical. Is there any corroboration of this anywhere?
