I am researching an article on Newfoundlanders who joined various Allied air services during WWI. I have found service records for most of these aviators at the National Archives (Kew). Laurie Baine is one of the men I am having trouble finding information on. He was actually a Londoner who was doing an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering with the Reid Newfoundland Railway Company when WWI broke out. He joined the 1st Newfoundland Regiment (#592) in 1914. I have information on his infantry service, but very little on his RFC service. He joined in Sept. 1916 and achieved the rank of Captain, but I have little else on him. There is one casualty card which identifies his squadron as 2 A. S. F. I'm not familiar with the ASF designation. I doubt if they had special forces at that time. Does anyone know what this abbreviation stands for or have any other information Lieut. Baine? Here is a link to the casualty card:
