Previous Crashfiles: http://members.shaw.ca/flyingaces/br.crashfiles/

The Rules:

1.All aircraft are of the 1914-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).
2.The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
3.All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner! Offenders will be dealt with severely!
4.To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in it's identification.
5.And whoever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!
6.If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
7.The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet. In cases where the arbitrator's game answer is in question the decision rests with the current leader of the table.

Caproni Bomber ( Ca3)

Caproni Bomber ,...[Could be the slighjtly bigger Ca5 ],....But more Probably this is an earlier Ca3 ( military designation) ..possibly in French service ?

3 off ,..Polygon rudder shape ,...the shape to allow full span elevator ( shown in "up" position in photo) .
Rear dark stripe will be Red ,...middle one white & ... light front stripe is Blue if French service ,.....or ..... if Italian service , green .... but I suspect in this case the green would appear dark rather than light grey .]

Slightly raked back tips to the empennage ...(no balance portion)

3 bay wings ...most struts broken on RH side , but the 3 bay easily seen on the far , LH side .
Typical of Ca 3/5 type ,...Long , Upper Aileron control horn positioned close to the second innermost Aileron rib .( can not see lower ailerons)

Rear part of Central nacelle just seen with remains of tube Gunners "cage" above Central motor .

2 long square box section tail booms , which carry the 2 outer , "tractor" motors , but in the photo , the motor types cannot be seen to ID the exact model of Ca3 .

Not possible to see any landing gear .

Bonjour

In fact it was a CEP 1 B2 ,the license built version of Caproni 1 (Caproni 31)
by Esnault Peletrie factories with two 80 hp Le Rhone
It was not possible to distinguish between CA1 and CA3 on my photo
so point to John
for he history, The CEP 1 B2 belonged to Squadron 115 . The Caproni crashed when landing on plateau Malzéville airfield , on January 19, 1916 - In flight training, crew was composed of three men Ltt René Itier ,instructor pilot, Adjudant Charles Nungesser, pilot training and Sgt Marcel Noel, mechanic - He apparently hit a stone wall - Three men were injured and the aircraft completely destroyed
Was certainly first ,but not last!! ,injury of Charles Nungesser in his air service

Thank you Bruno for interesting photo challenge .

Especially interesting is all the information about the crash & that the pilot in training of this machine was Charles Nungesser .
