Alfred Lindenberger had the distinction of being a Great War ace who
also flew with the Luftwaffe in the Second World War. The 47-year
old Prussian was posted to JG 300 in June 1944 and was promoted
to Gruppenkommandeur later in the year. He had 4 victories in 1944
(3 bombers and 1 P-51 Mustang), was himself shot down and wounded
on 28 Sept. 1944 by Mustangs, and later flew ME 262 jet fighters. He
was sufficiently adept with the 262 that the Army Air Corps brought him
to the United States to instruct AAC pilots how to fly the 262. I noticed
that his biography in the Forum's "Ace" section lacks biographical
information, so I request his birth and death dates/places and posting
information so it can be added to his biography. I was unable to access
an article about him--"Der Jagdflieger Alfred Lindenberger," by
Joerg Mueckler, in the Deutches Soldatenjahrbuch, 1999. Perhaps
someone can access the article and post it on The Aerodrome site.
