I draw attention to a new book "Wings over the Western Front: the First World War Diaries of Collingwood Ingram", edited by Ernest Pollard and Hazel Strouts, published by Day Books on 30 June 2014, price £10.
It is a highly unusual diary, by an RFC Compass Officer. He writes about his life in the RFC, but was also an expert ornithologist and the diary is full of his sketches of birds, the French countryside, local people and RFC officers. He travelled extensively between the aerodromes where he serviced the compasses, getting out into the countryside in his off-duty hours.
