G'day All!
A question on the old Gunbus.
This is info required for the WW1 aero game Wings of Glory.
Can anyone confirm that the Gunbus could perform an Immleman turn?
I am presuming it could but would like some confirmations.
Cheers Barry.

I'm just guessing, but I doubt it. I've never read anything operational, to say the later FE2's could perform an Immelmann, so one might suppose neither could the GunBus. You would probably have crewmen falling out!

Thanks Russ!
Yeah the gunner in both FB5 & FE 2's were fairly well exposed.

I.M.H..The F.B.5 probably could do a very awkward Immelman but I doubt it was a maneuver widely employed. It was powered by a Gnome Monosoupape engine with only 100 hp. It was in action by July of 1914 and had a difficulty time competing with the Eindecker. It was noted to have slow speed and rate of climb and to many its performance proved inadequate. In Gutman and Dempsey's study of pusher aces there is only one crew that were classified as aces.

In his book "Up and At'em," Harold Hartney claimed to have climbed to a near stall and kicked his rudder to turn his FE2d. I have doubts about parts of the book, but he did fly FE's and he was known after the war as a very good pilot.
