Replica Fok EV157/18 at 75% Wright Patrol

Well, I am doing the finishing colors & markings on Glen Fike's 75% Fokker D.VIII in the impression of Fok EV157/18 (Jasta 6 markings).
All the covering is done over the airframe finished in Ceconite aircraft fabric. I'm applying my custom mixed 4-color lozenge sprayed to the bottom surface (seen below in the pic), over the silver base. The topsides are now ready for their 4-color application.
I'll keep you posted on the progress. I should be done before the weekend.

Looks fantastic Jan! Looking forward to checking it out at Dawn Patrol. I can imagin Glen is excited to get her flying in the spring...which I understand may happen by June of this year! What type of paint are you using? Mike P.

Hi Mike,
Glen & I will write up an GWAA article about his D8 & my painting technique.
I can tell you it's not latex household paint.

Jan,
there is nothing proprietary here, and many of the forum members are not GWAA members. It's okay to reveal - what paint?
It does look very good.

Oh, and I do look forward to the article, too. Always fun to see advanced photos of my targets

Jan;
It sounds to me like there was a bit of sarcasm in that statement. Is Latex not an appropriate paint, in your opinion? Why? And I guess most importantly to those of us on a very tight budget, what was the cost of paint to complete it?
It is looking very good!

No sarcasm, was tongue in cheek!
Jan, I notice on the Wright Patrol site that they said they used the ultralight cloth, but shrank at all three temps. When I was building, they cautioned to NOT try to shrink at the third temp because it does not tighten any more than 300 (las IIRC from Poly System book was 325 or 335, not 350), and there is a risk of fiber integrity degredation. It weakens the dacron but does not show a visible change.

I may be off on this, but it would be worth double checking on for the safety of the wings/lifting surfaces, anyway.

The turtle deck is done now. The cold weather doesn't help the painting process at all, especially when our goal is this Friday for completion.

We will gather at Glen Fike's Saturday evening for a cook out after the DPR planning meeting.
