A WW1 aviation question that has never ever been asked...

Dear fellows,

my wife sometimes is kidding on me by claiming, no woman would ever find her way into WW1 aviation intrest, not even by mistake ! All I can answer is: "Well, Springfairy, probably you're right..."

So has any of you guys ever heard about a female individual within the ranks of our masculine hobby ?

Cheers to all merry married men and blinking bachelors,

Michael (& Constanze)
from Germany

A number of ladies frequent the Aerodrome and I have no doubt will make themselves known to you

Knusel & Constanze ... yes, we exist. Like Graeme said, there are actually quite a few of us hanging out on the Aerodrome. And I have the tattoos to prove my obsession (currently MvR's and Emil Schaefer's D.IIIs, and that collection will eventually grow). My husband just learned to deal with it.

Michael,

Welcome to the Aerodrome! I am female and throughout the years of my membership I have met many other women here who share this interest. We are not rare at all! Some of us have even authored books and articles on WWI aviation. How did I find my way into this hobby? Ever since a very young age I have been intrigued by the aces and the airplanes they flew.

Hoooaaawooh boy Michael! I think you should try blinking more often. My regards to Constanze, but there are, and have been, many long term accomplished members of the fair sex at The Aerodrome. Working only from my failing memory, womenfly2, red in the skies, FliegerJG1, jagd in flanders himmel, AAC Cadet Leader(moderator), many more, (pardon, I've undoubtedly forgotten many and misspelled member names), have demonstrated their interest in aviation history. As DerDrache has informed you, you two both need to adjust your expectations a bit. Take a look below at just some of the female interest during an EAA convention. Their interest naturally extends into aviation history, and bless their nature, or you wouldn't be here either!

Alright, with this photo I think, my wife cannot refuse to start reading Osprey's Aircraft of the Aces from Vol.32 onwards anymore.

I'm a female also. My fascination with WWI aviation is something I thought I'd never ever have.

Several. For example, a friend of mine is writing here PhD on the RAF's official history of the First World War. Plenty of ladies working in the field
