Whoever hosts the Tumblr blog Der rote Kampfflieger shows two pictures which apparently show MvR (it certainly looks like him) in a Swimsuit on a beach.
( I can not figure out how to link directly to the pictures to show them here.so you have to click on the link to the blog to see them for yourselves)
I certainly have seen many pictures of Manfred von Richthofen by now but these are new to me has anyone seen them before ? there is no original source given.

Yes the skin colour of the head is much darker than any other part of the body including the hands.
Whilst you would expect his body not to be as tanned the hands should be.

If it is a case of photoshopping, which it well might be, we should be able to find the photos that provided the "heads" that were pasted on the bodies. Most folks on this forum have probably seen just about every photo of MVR that is available to be seen. Does anything look familiar about the "heads" in these two photos? I mean, can you provide the photos from which the heads were cut and then pasted here on these?
I am open to either possibility, myself.
I am looking at the shadows of the head on the body. I am no expert, but I think they are "accurate." Thoughts?
I am no expert at being able to spot photoshopped photographs--but when you consider that the only part of the body that is generally exposed on a pilot--is the face--I wonder if it is not to unlikely that the dark skin is caused from exposure to the winds in altitudes (regardless of Vaseline or whatever the Germans used). The hairline seems to be the same color as the rest of the body in both photographs. It's a hard one--and if photoshopped--they did a really good job!
Cheers,
Jim
I always look the same after our flight week,
but we got a closed cockpit so you get a really
tanned face, lower arms and hands...
...the rest is really white/untanned.
It's already extremly visible just at a hobby pilot,
who flies a lot (and/or "flight week"), no wonder
it is really intense at a frontline pilot of these days...
Ul 1 seems to be the short form of his Ulanenregiment "Kaiser Alexander III. von Russland (westpreußisches) Nr. 1". Nevertheless the pictures are showing a beach...
Tanning: Like Tom....I am tanned the same way, but (regrettably) not by flying, but driving an open car.
