Hi Roser,
I think this is one of the "Presentation" aircrafts, like for example the one with "Malaya17 The Alma Baker No 3".
See this old thread:

Bonjour Roser!
Apparently there were four aircraft presented by the Shanghai Race Club to the Royal Flying Corps; these being, obviously, Shanghai Race Club, Shanghai Race Club No. 2, Shanghai Race Club No. 3, and, wait for it ... Shanghai Race Club No. 4. Please note, however, that more than four different aircraft carried the designations for, when a donation was made, the name in which the presentation was made for was applied to an aircraft and, if that aircraft was later written off strength, it was common to apply the same name to another aircraft. Consequently, several aircraft bore a Shanghai Race Club designation.
If you give information on the type and the specific marking applied I may be able to provide some information.
Salut!
Kirk

A comprehensive list of presentation aircraft, broken down by Country and presentation name, appears in Cross and Cockade Great Britain Journal Volume 14 No 2 (1983).

From the C&C Journal -
The name "Shanghai Race Club No 2" was carried by six aircraft -
1. FE2b 6992 (No 11 Sqn) until shot down on 10 October 1916
2. FE2b A5471 (No 23 Sqn) until written off on 9 March 1917
3. DH4 A7484 (No 57 Sqn) until shot down on 11 July 1917
4. DH4 A7517 (No 18 Sqn) until shot down on 18 November 1917
5. DH4 A7876 (No 57 Sqn, 17 Sqn RNAS and No 55 Sqn) until shot down on 20 July 1918
6. Camel F2010 (No 70 Sqn) until at least January 1919.

Hi Graeme & Roser
I just wonder if the B 2 is a flight designation?
Cheers Russ

Hi Russ
Could be - we'd need to see a photo of the machine.
If the presentation name was simply "Shanghai Race Club" then the aeroplane would be either BE2c 2553, No 16 Sqn, shot down on 20 April 1917 or RE8 C2445, No 6 Sqn, damaged in action on 23 October 1918 and subsequently struck off charge.

Hi Graeme
That sounds interesting. As I read it, the said 16 Sqn BE2c was downed by FlakBatt 503 and the crew taken pow, so one would think the machine was relatively intact.
But yes a look at the photo would help. Not that I have any clue how to post photos.
Cheers Russ
