Just saw the author Richard Rubin on CSPAN today--a fascinating account of his last-minute grab of GW history. (When Martin Middlebrook wrote "First Day on the Somme" in 1971 it was heralded as a last-minute account.) He interviewed dozens of US personnel from WW I, median age 106 or so, including three women. He's spent a lot of time in France walking the ground and meeting European students/historians.
