New Book Germany's Fighter Competitions of 1918
Today I published the 8th book in my series on German aircraft, Germany's Fighter Competitions of 1918. This book describes and illustrates Germany’s 1918 fighter development through the story of the three Fighter Competitions with more than 215 rare photos illustrating 70 different German fighter designs, 65 color profiles, and performance specifications. The German fighter competitions are discussed in the context of the evolving combat environment and Germany’s strategic situation.
For continuity in discussing 1918 German fighter development I have included some intermediate types that for different reasons did not appear at the competitions. For example, the Kondor D.VI is included even though it appeared between the 2nd and 3rd competitions, that is, between the Kondor D.II (2nd competition) and E.III/IIIa (3rd competition). Another example is the Albatros D.IX; intended for the 1st competition, it crashed shortly before the competition started and therefore did not appear.
Scale drawings to 1/48 scale of 9 fighters (Aviatik D.VI and D.VII, Kondor D.II, D.VI, and E.III, SSW D.VI, Fokker V29, Daimler L11, and Zeppelin D.I) are included in the book’s 166 pages.
The book is now available from Amazon.com.
