Hi, it concerns the identification of Fokkerstaffel C in 1916.

If anyone knows where this unit was stationed at the time. I know Hess was photographed with Boelcke at Sivry somewhere in June or July 1916 together with Lt Mallinckrodt, Lt von Hartmann and Lt Krefft at Sivry. This last one was with FFA 2 at the time.

Best regards,

Johan

Maybe the "C" in Fokkerstaffel C stands for an airfield or town such as kampf-Einsitz Staffel B signifingits proximity to Bertincourt ? Another source:The Fokkeraircraft, as from1 April 1916 will be assembled into two Staffeln ,EAST and WEST Airfield of the west-staffel will be at le Faux Ferme north-east of Coucy. Airfield of the EAST-Staffel will be just west of St.Erme. To the Fokker-Staffel-West will go the aircraft of {Feldflieger} Abteilung 7,II and 39-four aircraft .To Fokker-Staffel-East will go the aircraft of Abteilung 26 and 29-five aircraft. The Fokker Staffelen come under the direct orders of the Stabsoffizier der Flieger to whom they are allocated

Hi Sator,

I've been thinking about this possibility also. His victory with this unit neat Grandpré gives us in these cases the possibility of Chassogne Ferme, but also for Cunel, hard to say as they were very close to eachother, only a few km. As he didn't move from one Army to another one in this period (not as far as I know) and joined KEK Sivry in the same area these are the two possibilities, but I had thought that as so many famed authors had written about him in thisunit, someone would have discovered the identity of it...

Best regards,

Johan

More info : Hess got himself posted to FA 62, and the attached Kek Douai, along with Boelcke and Immelmann. He was then posted to Fokkerstaffel C in the Champagne, followed on 1 July to Fokkerstaffel Sivry.
