Rapp V8

Gentleman
I am seeking to clarify some details regarding this engine.
- It is listed as 142ps and also 200ps. Do these figures relate to early and later models?
- a weight figure of 300kg for the 200ps is all I have seen quoted. Again is this for a later model and if so any figures for the 142ps.
- there are very few mentions of it as an operational powerplant, if so any information on operational problems with it.
- is there any information as to whether Max Fritz took any interest in it after his move to Rapp from Daimler?
- any information on whether experience with it enabled BMW to produce an advanced V8 within the IdFlieg captured HS8 development program.
Thankyou in advance.

Rapp motoren were very much used by Austro-Hungary in some of their Marine flying boats as well as those of some of the Bavarian-based aircraft companies. The Otto C.I used the 200 h.p. Rapp engine in some of the airframes produced. The other engines used were the Benz Bz.III and Mercedes D.III engines of 150-160 h.p. respectively. All of those used in this type were inline six-cylinder engine designs.

The Austro-Hungarian Marine used Rapp as a supplier for aircraft engines and a large part of Rapp production went to fulfil those needs.

Max Fritz after moving from Rapp to Daimler, later returned to BMW (which had absorbed the Rapp concern in a reorganization) which resulted in the formation of the BMW concern and the excellent BMW IIIa.
