57 Squadron

My uncle Lt. E H Piper was a pilot (DH4) in France between 5th Dec'17 and 15th May'18 when he was shot down and killed. I have his Pilot's Flying Log Book and have already visited The National Archive and looked at the squadron records and intend compiling a history of the squadron, firstly during the period when my uncle was with it. I am interested in any information on other pilots and photographs of the squadron.

57 squadron

Thank you Cukdul, interesting posts. I have decided to get a complete copy of the squadron records from the National Archives after which I will able look in detail at the squadron's personnel, aircraft, missions and casualties etc. For instance I believe that the squadron motto 'I change my body not my spirit' was given after an episode when almost all the flying personnel became casualties. This I want to research, I understand that it was in 1917 when they were still using the near obsolete FE2b.
When I am up and running if you or anyone else wants information on the squadron in WW1, please don't hesitate in contacting me.
PS. My uncle Lt E H Piper and his observer Lt H L B Crabbe are buried in Carnoy Cemetery SE of Albert. I am going to visit his grave this April.
Regards, Ron Piper
