communication with ground forces

Hello everybody,

I'm just getting started with my Schlastapilot reenactment and I want to make a few flags with symbols for ground-to-air communications. Maybe I'm searching with the wrong keywords but I just cannot find any examples of communication flags which are used to communicate with the pilots up in the air.

Does anybody know which symbols were used and what they mean so I can make a few for my display?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gerbrand

I have written an article on 'German Contact Patrols' that was published in the Spring 2011 edition of 'Cross & Cockade International'. It includes some of the Ground Panels used during 1916-17 and probaly into 1918. There were 'signalling panels' , panels to indicate regimental and battalion battle HQs and other cloths and flares to mark their front line location. Since the article I have found other information.
The 'T' in January 1917 meant 'We hold the Line.'
An inverted 'V' , sharp end towards the 'enemy' meant 'We are about to advance (ready to attack).'
A normal 'V' meant 'Understood.'
