Leffer´s Fokker in 1915

When once more reading in Greg VanWyngardens excellent book „Early German Aces of World War 1“ I noticed that Leffers E 84/15 was called an E.III (page 26). Accidently I was going through Peter Grosz & Volker Koos fine work “Die Fokker-Flugzeugwerke in Deutschland” and have seen (page 38) that the numbers E. 1-85/15 were in a block of ordering numbers for E.I and E.II. Furthermore, Grosz/Koos mentioned the “upgrade” of many E.II to E.III airplanes. Now I wonder if Leffers flew an E.II, an E.III or a former E.II modified to E.III standard. Is there a clear answer out there?
TIA.
