RE 8 Harness Anchor Points

Hi
Anyone know if the pilots harness (lap strap) was attached to the internal frame or the seat of the Harry Tate. WNW insruction book shows it coming over the pilots shoulder, which looks wrong to me. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS.

The reproduction RE8 recently completed by TVAL has the pilot's seatbelt coming over the shoulder. This photo taken by David Money shows Gene DeMarco in the pilot seat (not wearing his belt yet) and the belt attaching somewhere in the observers cockpit and passing through some kind of clip. I am intending to visit the TVAL hangar at Hood Aerodrome some time soon to get more detailed photos.

Many thanks for that. Its a beauty isnt it? Looking a bit closer though, it may be a Sutton Harness, not the old original two piece lap strap. Thanks for the excelent photo.

Usually for RAF designs , the standard Wide Lap Harness is all that was used ..Their ends finish in a looped rope , which loops around the joint at the point where Top longeron & adjacent vertical & horizontal cross members meet .
Sutton harness's are a very late developement & were not much used in WWI .
The Seat belt was just to stop the pilot from falling out ..Not for Crash protection.
