Question info on richthofenls circus' baboon mascot?

from the video archives of jg1 the viewer will see manfreds dog moritz and the many dachsunds and other dogs... But you will also see an enlisted man showing off the baboon mascot... Does anyone have any info on that? Its funny nd interesting story and i was curious how long they had him, how they got him wjat they named him, etc? Is it mentioned in any of their memoires or notes? Which jasta within jg 1 had it?

The baboon's name was Betty and she "flew" with Jasta 4. There is a funny story in Udet's book where she got into the suitcases during an important move and scattered everyone's clothes everywhere. They were none too happy. She was saved from an abandoned zoo if I remember correctly. Jasta 4's other three "mascots" were Von Doring's dogs Vickers, Nieuport, and Spad.

The story about the baboon is not in Udet's book. It was in a Spanish-language interview (circa 1930) with Carlos "Karl" Müller-Baldo which used to be online (but which has now disappeared). I have a couple of photos showing Udet and Meyer, as well as others, watching the baboon interact with one of their dogs. There are several photos of the baboon in the Rouselle album, in which the animal is captioned as "Betty".Of course, the baboon shows up in the film footage as well.

JG I had quite a few mascots, as well as Vickers, Nieuport and Spad.
