The Rules
1. All aircraft are of the 1914-18 period (Must have left the ground during this period).
2. The score board, link and rules must be copied to the beginning of each thread, so that we know where we are. The score board and the correct answer to the challenge must also be placed at end of each thread.
3. All "ACES" with a score of 5.0 or higher must obey the 3.0 hour handicap. All others with a score of ZERO to 4.99 may start immediately, if not sooner! Offenders will be dealt with severely!
4. To be eligible for correct ID an answer must include at least one characteristic of the aircraft that helped in it's identification.
5. And whoever wins this challenge will have to provide a new one! If this can not be done for any reason, please PM Breguet and he will take over as host!
6. If an ace gives the correct answer too early, the challenge is over, he gets no point but has to post the next challenge. In lieu of the fact that the "novices" have in effect been "cheated" of their "exclusive" time that next post should be a relatively easy one. Anyone repeating the correct answer at the right time gets neither a point nor the right to post the next challenge.
7. The final arbitrator of all things to do with the "rules" is Breguet

Bruno

OK I'll start the ball rolling. For the fin and rounded top to the rudder and the double wheel undercarriage I'll say MF 11.

Bonjour à) tous

Congratulations Breguet you are right
The exact designation was Maurice Farman MF 11 bis type 37,but
with the photo I gave it was impossible to determine exact designation

This MF serial number 1297 belonged to escadrille F14,pilot Lecomte, and was destroyed in 24 april 1916 in a landing accident

Bonjour à tous
Yes you are right but xxxvii =37 and more easy to read!
And since 1917 I think, arabic numerals were admitted by sfa
because some designations become hard to read

The S.F.A. list went to LVI, at least what is in the archive list. I think when the Romans could handle this counting / number system we could do it in these 'advanced' times ?

When you look at pictures of real unbroken Maurice Farmans and you have some luck (no persons in the front) you can see the Roman numerals at the tail ....

yes I know that Tork

I am less ignorant of SFA number system that you seem to think
Not necessary to be so 'purist' in crash file challenge
By the way , by chance, here is the rudder of the crashed MF
of this # 660 (see the link I gave)

To finish this small conversation
  • IMO I have never given any impression that you are ignorant of the SFA number system, if you feel that way apologies are in order from my side
  • I do not believe this is a 'purist' discussion, as IMO it is more like changing the past. I have seen enough instances of Fokker D7, Koolhoven F.K.8, Dorniers RS.I, de Havilland D.H.1 etc.
