Goggle inserts

A while back, Dart posted a goggle issue in Dale's (Bookmaker) thread.

Here are a few pictures of the process... it is really quite simple... assuming you have the protective mask inserts to start with. I guess this only works for the folks here who are in the military... but I could see doing something similar with a civilian pair of glasses.

Ok, so here it goes...

Here is a photo of the starting materials...



Upper left is a paper pattern of the goggle lens. Upper right are the M-40 protective mask inserts... notice the black springy plastic parts that hold the inserts in place on the mask eye piece. That is what we are replicating here in a manner that will fit in my specific goggles.

Below that is where I transferred the goggle glass pattern to a board and tacked nails around the perimeter.


This next photo shows how the inserts are held together with a brass pin.





I remove this pin to seperate the two lenses.



leaving you with a lens for each eyepiece.
