Lt Kurt Seit

Leutnant Kurt Seit achieved 5 victories & was awarded the Iron Cross in his time at Jasta 80. I believe this was whilst flying a Fokker DVI. Can this be confirmed & which serial number did he fly?

Hi Cary,
Sorry I cannot help with the aircraft that he flew but I hope the info below helps.
The claim on the 07/09/18 for a DH9 from 104 Sqn RAF I have as only damaged but he was awarded the victory.
The French balloon that he claimed on the 21/10/18 while it may well have been shot down / winched down in did not catch fire.
The Bregeut 14 on the 05/11/18 may have been from Esc. Br.7 Capt Laere & Sgt. Fersey, both MIA.
He also claimed a Balloon on the 05/11/18 which was not allowed.
Happy Hunting

Hi Joe M, thanks for the information it is appreciated. I'm keen to find out as much as I can as I will be flying a 1/3rd scale radio controlled DVI next year & I want to give it some "identity". My aim is to find a pilot who flew the DVI in the colours it is finished in, Kurt Seit being one, but the particular colour scheme he flew in is hard to find. Where did you get your details from & does it have any colour scheme information.
Many thanks

Hi Cary,
In 'The Jasta Pilots' by Norman Franks, Frank Bailey and Rick Duiven on page 334 they show a D.VI in side profile only with the following info;
'According to US intelligence, aircraft had tails painted in black and white stripes. Ltn Spiedel's Fokker D.VI had two chordwise white stripes only on a lozenge fabric tailplane, and a black rear fuselage'.
The side profile shows the black rear fuselage begining at the rear of the cockpit and finishing at the begining of the tail.
Just found Windsock Data File no 84 on the Fokker D.VI, you should really try and get a copy or a loan of this if you want to model Seit's aircraft. The cover has a beautiful painting of his D.VI. Just to give you an idea here is the blurb on the front cover painting. It titled 'Eyes, teeth and Spandaus! by Brian Knight.
Ltn. Kurt Seit of Jasta 80b flew this highly decorated, black tailed D.VI in 1918. Bavarian blue and white enemel has been applied to the fuselage sides and also to the cowling (shades of Werner Voss!). The row of teeth were neatly rendered; after the war Kurt became a dentist in Stuttgart.
He also had the name Fratz applied to the forward fuselage. The data file has some very good photos of his aircraft inside and the rear cover shows his aircraft in plan view as well. It would make a great colour scheme for a flying scale model.
Please post a photo of the finished aircraft and let me know where to find it.
Happy Hunting

Hi Joe M, many thanks for the info. I'm getting a copy of the Windsock next week & will be studying it in depth. I also need to identify whether Kurt Seit's DVI is 4 or 5 colour lozenge as mine is covered in the 5 colour.
Thanks again & pics will be loaded up when finalised.

Hi Cary,
The data file will supply all the info that you require, it seems that a mixture of 4 and 5 lozenge fabric may have been used, I won't go into detail especially as you are getting a copy of the data file.
Happy Hunting
