RFC Airfield locations

Hi Gents,

Anyone know how best to identify precise locations of RFC airfields used during the conflict? Is there a definitive map, a table of locations or some such?

These are the ones I need.

St Omer, then Treizennes, Auchel, Bruay, Bryas, Aniche and Orcq.

Many may well be beneath modern development or otherwise obliterated, but some might be feeding cows as no doubt they were just prior to the noise, suffering and the roar of the Hispano Suiza.

Thanks in advance...

I'm not home at the moment so I can't check which ones, but some of those dromes are certainly covered in Mike O'Connors Airmen & Aerodromes books in the Battleground Europe Series from Pen & Sword Books. Also, check the McMaster University maps website - it has all the trench maps, and many dromes show up on those maps.
Cheers,
shredward

Dear Shredward,

Perhaps the best detail resource yet for the purpose. Really tremendous, thank you. I have a couple of the Battleground Europe series on the way from Amazon as we speak.

Putting these together with Google Earth should show what's left.

Cross and Cockade had an excellent gazetteer cross referenced to IGN maps, ask at Cross and Cockade.
