L. Maxant Altimeter being auctioned on ebay

If anyone needs a French L. Maxant of Paris altimeter, there is one for auction on Ebay in France at: French L. Maxant altimeter It is in rough condition, but it looks like the outside at least could be restored without too much trouble. The seller does not say anything about the condition of the inside.

Usual diclaimer: I have no connection with this seller and I do not know how original this altimeter may be. I am just mentioning it here since I know there are a number of guys working on restorations and reproductions here and great war era instruments are not easy to find.

Hi Jim,

No luck here.

I went to France, tried several abreviations of and including "Française L. Maxant altimètre".... Found lots of watches(?) and other stuff, but not one altimeter de WWI!

Cheers, Jay

P.S. Even tried this: "Française L. Maxant altimètre"!

Sorry, I just went back and looked and it is not on the French Ebay. It is on the US Ebay website and listed auction number 220829425140 under the title of WWI FRANCE ALTIMETER MILITARY AIRPLANE COCKPIT PILOT. As of this moment it has 3 days to go with no bids and a starting bid of $50. The seller seems to be in Bulgaria which normally makes me a little uneasy, but on the other hand he has a high number of sales and a 99.9% feedback rating. I am not the one to judge though, whether this is completely okay.

Here is another link to the auction that hopefully will work:

Here is a photo of the altimeter:

I have a bad feeling that this is just the casing of an altimeter. No sign of shaft or inner workings.

I agree that it could be just the case with no mechanism. One would need to contact the seller to see just what it is. The description says it is missing parts. Aside from the obvious missing indicator needle the seller doesn't say what else it is missing.
