Salmson 2M7 two row radial
Hi,
Can anybody help me to find images of the Salmson 2M7, 200 hp, 14 cylinder, 2 row, water cooled radial? I'm working on a Short Type 166 seaplane and I need some help with this. I can't seem to find a single closeup image of this engine that shows sufficient details.
Thanks all

While not an exact match, the book "textbook of aero engines" goes into a lot of detail on Salmson water cooled radial engines. It may be helpful to start there...
also try: Aviation engines By Victor Wilfred Pagé
you can find both on google books for free.

That's a 9 cylinder single row P-9 and a Russian one to boot. Nicely restored though.
I did find a bad picture of the 2M7, frontal view only in this book (Plate 15, facing page 80):

Thanks again RobW, that was an excellent pointer you gave me.

Thats a nice looking engine... I need a9Z for the Salmson I plan to build... Hadn't thought to look for one in Russia..
hmmm...
Here is another link that does a good job of describing the two row version... it indicates that many of the parts were common.

Apparently Anatra, Breshnev-Moller, Dux, Lebedev and Schetinin in Russia all built Salmson engined Voisins under license. Some of these factories made the Voisin in large numbers. The Russians must have license built the Salmson engine as well.
Thanks for that link, this book is full of engines I have never heard of before. Here is the Open Library PDF:

kristjanr,
No photos but a little information for you from my library.
Salmson 2M-7
Composed of two sets of M7 cylinders (120mm bore, 140mm stroke) operating on the 6 stroke cycle and producing 200 hp @ 1250 rpm.
1349.7 cubic inch displacment and weighing 935 lbs.
Single throw crank with the cams running at one third engine speed. 41.3 inch diameter.
Can someone explain the six cycle engine to me?
Regards,
John
