Strictly World War I or multiple eras?

Hi all,

I'm curious, do most of you build only WWI aircraft or do you venture into other eras? I am relatively new to WWI modeling having built primarily WWII fighters and a few jets and helicopters for decades. Because of this, my stash is large and quite diverse!

I must say, though, that since completing a few WWI models, I have totally fallen in love with aircraft of this period. I could easily build nothing but Wingnut kits for years to come!

Cheers,
Eric

I'll build anything that comes from a box on a hobby shop shelf
My other favourite topic is airliners, so many shiny colours!

I do subjects ranging up to the early days of WWII, with great emphasis on inter-war types, particularly Boeing and Curtiss open-cockpit fighters. Most of my scratch-builds are Great War types.

This is about the most modern type I have completed....

It is a Seversky 'convoy fighter' operated by the I.J.N. in China during 1939.

Anything that strikes my fancy, really.

My collection of finished models is overwhelmingly WWII props, with a smattering of WWI, early jets, sci-fi, figures and armour. No ships anywhere (although that may change soon if I pick up the Bronco Seehund) and a few unstarted automotive subjects in the stash.

I didn't build much since the late seventees...tried to pick it up again several times, but lack of time and focus left me with countless half finished models.

I have more time for it soon...and I found my focus again

When I introduced myself on this forum I said...

Always had a soft spot for WWI models
In 1970 (I was 10 years old!) I bought this little gem...

It's a Dutch translation of the Blandford "Bombers and Fighters 1914-1919" published in 1967.

With this little book on my side I build all the Airfix 1:72 WW I models.
Even tried to paint the lozenges...failed horribly of course.

Much nicer models nowadays..and lozenge decals! woohoo!

So it's no surprise I like WW I birds.
I think I stick to 1:48 because there lots of nice planes available in that scale and it's just a nice scale to build.

My first plane WIP since ages...

...and for those who seen my cute small stash...it's no longer small

I'm here to stay now!

I just finished the FM Snowspeeder. Lovely little kit.

Long ago, I was married to a very high strung, high maintenace woman who barely tolerated my hobby and whenever she was angry, would destroy all of my completed models. She knew how to hurt me. These were mostly 1/48 scale aircraft from the last global unpleasantness, with one or two WWI kites and an occasional jet. For a while, I would just build more until one day I just gave up, boxed up all my unbuilt kits (6 very large moving boxes) and stashed them in the garage. After 18 years of not building anything, I decided to sell them all. My new bride, Carol (we've been together 3 years, now), said "Why don't you build them?" This just confirmed why I married her in the first place. She's a Goddess. And a Saint. Well, I went through box #1 and discovered a kit with the box lid missing. I couldn't very well sell that one, so I pulled it out and started on it. It was Eduards 1/48 Pfalz D.III, first release, with Werner Voss' markings. I was hooked. I loved the look of the biplane with it's rigging and wooden prop. I immediately went to my local hobby shop and retrieved my old JMGT Hanriot HD.1 that I had built 20 years earlier and had stashed in the shop's display case to protect it from Hurricane Holly (my ex). Almost 2 years later, I'm firmly entrenched in 1/48 scale WWI modelling and can't imagine building anything else, except maybe the WNW Ninak Carol bought me for my birthday just so I don't hurt her feelings. I love these old "flimsies", and now I'm reading everything I can get my hands on related to flying in the Great War. The more I read, the more I realize these guys were serious badasses.

Bud
