Was German Lozenge Fabric "Coated"?

As a relative new comer to WWI aircraft, I was wondering if the Lozenge Fabric used on German aircraft was coated in any way... giving it a gloss or semi-gloss, or flat appearance? I am particularly interested in the fabrics applied to the top of wings, elevators, etc.

Regards.... and thanks in advance
