LvR's final resting place

I think it is rather sad Lothar von Richthofen's body has never been moved to Wiesbaden with the rest of the family. I wonder why this is. It seems only fitting for his eternal resting place to be with the rest of his family, especially his older brother Manfred.

Lothar was buried in the Garrison cemetery at Schweidnitz along with his father who died around the same time. After WWII the markers were removed and the cemetery was plowed under by the Russians, a not uncommon practice when it came to German military cemeteries in the former Eastern Bloc.

There is a stone with Lothar's name and information in the family plot in Sudfriedhof Wiesbaden.

Richthofen's hometown Schweidnitz became Polish after WW2 and is nowadays called 'Świdnica'. In fact it was difficult enough for the Richthofen-family to 'save' Manfred when the grave (in the Eastern part of the divided Berlin) was to be destroyed in 1975! Remember: The Berlin Wall ran over the Invaliden-Friedhof.

Thorsten

PS: And "the Russians" (Sowjets) had nothing to do with the Cemetary in Świdnica/ Schweidnitz.
