New Bloke Introduction. (pleading for air support)
Hi, there, ladies and gentlemen.
This is my first post here (thanks, Bud), so I'd better introduce m'self. My name is Nick and I am forty something years old and I am fond of spoiling perfectly decent kits in all mediums of several scales of WWI aircraft of any type that takes my interest. Especially British, French, German, Italian, Russian and perhaps -especially- Austro Hungarian aircraft, so that's a narrow field, then. I am also sometimes annoying the locals over on the wwi list.
I have a question regarding an A/H aircraft, the Ufag C.I. This is the Ufag designed late war two seater, not the licence built version of the Hansa Brandenberg C.I that Ufag produced, also, confusingly, often called the Ufag C.I. My question is, there appears two different shapes to the cowling arond the nose cowling of the Ufag C.I, the kit I am working on, the Sierra vac in 1/48, has an angled slope from in front of the pilots windscreen down to the engine apperture, but the drawing of this aircraft in Austro Hungarian Army Aircraft of WWI, has this as a definite 'step' rather than a 'ramp', if you get my meaning. Can anyone shed light on what the significance of these different nose profiles may be? Different manufacturer? series differences? Thanks in advance for any help or info anyone may have on this.
Cheers,
Nick.

Nick, me boy! Glad you made it over. Someone will have an answer for you here, I'm sure. Meanwhile, I think it would be extremely considerate of you if you would post an in progress thread of that sweet little SSW D.III of yours.

Bud

Thanks for the welcome, fellas!
Hi, again, Guys. Thanks for the welcome! Gustav, that is indeed the Ufag C.I, though as for which aircraft I am going to finish the Sierra kit as, I haven't made a decision yet. I really am rather curious as to the nature of the difference between the different cowl shapes on this aircraft, it is the same difference between the Sierra kit and the drawings in the A/H a/c book. I am finding that the Ufag C.I is a very sparsely documented aircraft. Before completing the model, I would like to understand the nature of the differences. If I can't find an answer to this, then when I have finished my current project, a Koster SSW D.III, then I may just have to go with a colour profile of a 'sloping nosed' Ufag aircraft, and hope it's accurate reference. Not ideal, but it would be better than not having this rare bird in the show off case, I think. Bud, that is an intersting idea about submitting some progress pics of the SSW D.III. If that would be welcome here, I'll see what I can get together with the box-brownie. Thanks to all of you who have responded, and those may be about to chip in with the answer tothe riddle of the Ufag C.I noses?
Cheers
Nick.
