"High in the Empty Blue" soon to be in my WWI library

.

Good Morning All,

Yesterday, by pure dumb luck, I ran across a mint copy of Alex's premier work on 56 Squadron, being offered on eBay for $50.00! As I hadn't seen this must-have volume being sold for anything less than a C-note, (and normally for far more than that), I grabbed it immediately even though my book funds are a little thin at the moment. But strike while the iron is hot, eh what? I am now anxiously awaiting the arrival of my newest acquisition. Oh the sweet, sweet anticipation of it all.

Cheers!

Lou

Congratulations Lou!

It has always been outside of my budget, but from what I understand, you would have a bargain even if it wasn't in mint condition.

Enjoy your reading.

Talking

Mate,
One of the best investments and books that I have ever read concerning 56 Squadron - what a score for you. Once you get into it, it is hard to put down.

I managed to snag a mint copy also of "High In The Empty Blue" for roughly $50, from a bookstore in England. Took a couple of weeks to get to Hawaii. Although it was well-wrapped in a box and padding, it was also sealed inside a ginormous blue-and-white checked bag that said ROYAL MAIL GREAT BRITAIN MAX 11 KG. Actually, a pretty nice bag, but I have no idea what to do with it. I've received a fair amount of stuff from Blighty, but never in a bag like this. What gives?

I have 3 of those bags in different sizes, they're handy

Not like it's going to help you Burl, but I had a bag problem too. I recently bought a new HP inkjet all-in-one printer that came packed in a bag, complete with handles, inside the box. The bag made it easy to lift the printer out of the styrofoam packing without having to grab onto something that would probably break off, or risk dropping the whole thing on the floor if you're unpacking it by yourself. So after I get the printer set up and running and I'm cleaning up the box & packing, I'm looking at this beautiful cloth bag & thinking what am I going to do with it? It laid on the floor for a few days until suddenly it hit me -- what a perfect dustcover for the printer!

Hold onto it -- something will occur to you eventually. If nothing does, throw it out -- then for sure, the instant it's gone for good, you'll realize exactly what you need it for (but of course, too late).

BTW, I got my copy of HITEB a few years back, as-new condition from an English bookseller for about $150 -- and I still think it's a bargain. Great book!!!

11 kg is something like 25 pounds, so it's stronger than paper, more like cloth. It's obviously recycled plastics and fibers, so it's likely disposable. We have recyclable materials pickup, so I can always recycle it, if I don't find a use. Just hate to toss out good stuff. But what I was querying about is WHY the package was mailed in a bag in the first place? The package itself was in fine shape.
