1/72 scale Kits Due For 'Replacement'?

Friends:

I was thinking the other day about all of the old (first generation, if you will)Airfix and Revell 1/72 scale kits that have now been "re-done" by Eduard and / or Roden. Here's what I recall regarding the first generation kits and those that have been produced to more modern standards.

Airfix
Fok. Dr 1 - Eduard and Roden
Sopwith Camel - Roden
Bristol F2b - Roden
Albatros DV - Eduard and Roden
SPAD VII - MAC (does that count, or is it too limited run?)

Revell
Fok. Dr 1 both, as per above
Fok. DVII - Roden
Sopwith Camel - Roden
RAF SE5a - Roden
Nieuport 17 - Eduard
SPAD XIII - Eduard
Albatros DIII - Roden
DH-2 - Eduard
Fok. EIII - Eduard

To what degree the replacement is an improvement over the first generation, both in accuracy and buildability, is a matter of opinion. I for one have come to much prefer Roden and Eduard kits, and really can't see myself building any of the first gens for which there is a modern relacement, others may disagree. Anyway, to the point of all this: of the un-replaced Airfix and Revell models, which, if any, are we likely to see as new kits?

Revell Sopwith Triplane
Airfix Sopwith Pup
Airfix RAF RE-8
Airfix Roland CII
Airfix Hannover CLII
Revell Morane Saulnier
Revell Nieuport 28

Admittedly, some few of these are still pretty darn good kits. It would not surprise me to see one or two of the above this year. Any guesses? Any votes?

What ho.

I have recently seen an Aifix press release that says that they are releasing the Handley Page 0/400 this year. I remember making it as a lad many moons ago and the rigging was a veritable cat's cradle of thread.

Cheer ho

Didn't Airfix also make an AVROE?? I rember building two and being criticized harshly for not correcting the "too shallow" fuselage. A new more accurate model would be welcome.

There are many planes that have never been kitted as an injected model in 1/72. A Caproni comes to mind. Then again maybe that was covered by Meikraft (before my time).

I'm sure there are dozens, but they keep producing the same old same old.

I don't have a crystal ball, so which one will be kitted I have no idea. If you are asking which I would like to see, it would be the Airfix kits, specifically the DH-4, Spad VII (never seen the MAC kit) and the Sopwith Pup.

I will fully admit the detail on Roden and Eduard kits are better, finer and crisper than most of the Revell kits, but I am quite happy with the Revell kits, with a small amount of detail work they can be turned into nice models.

I actually like Airfix kits but most of the WW1 and interwar kits take quite a bit of work even to get them to the level the Revell kits come out of the box.

I saw that, and will get one when they come out. I break out in cold sweats even thinking about the rigging though.

Replacements etc

Paddy

Revell did actually replace their Fokker DrI with a very nice completely new tool. Shame they haven't given the same treatment ot a few others in the WWI range.

As for the rest I'd most like to see updated versions of:
Sop Tripe
Nieu 28
Sop Pup

I also do not like the Roden Alb D.III. It's a very clumsy kit and a real pain to make fit right. So if Eduard or Revell (who did the first D.III) could do that one again I'd be happy.

And what wouldn't I give for Eduard to down scale their 1/48 Fokk D.VII range to 1/72... The Roden kits have too many niggly dimensional, moulding and fit issues.
