Is this Ernst Udet ?

From the Kagohl VIII album, it certainly looks a lot like him !

Hello Johan,
this is not Ernst Udet, the man is a member of the BOGOHL 8b.
Look the airplane in the background. I think it's a AEG G.IV.

greeting
Reinhard

Hello again,

I can not tell for sure without a close-up but I agree with Reinhard – what Udet had to do with twin engine aircraft.

Here is a photo of Offstv. Ernst Udet taken probably in late 1916 or early 1917. Hope this helps.

Regards

Marek

Hi Regulus,

I certainly have strong doubts that your photo is Udet, as well.

Greg

i was going to the same. it does not quite like him. sometimes, that's the problem with older photos. cannot tell who it is. no worries, i make the same mistake sometimes.

Hi Regulus,

I agree with Greg...I highly doubt that was a photo of Udet. Though there is a resemblance (and I understand why the question came up), I think the nose and chin seem off and the shoulders are too wide (see Lodzermensch's photo).

By the way, nice photo Lodzermensch. Thank you for sharing it!

Regards to all,

Lance

Hi,

I go against the majority and state that this is Ernst Udet. From his book 'Mein Fliegerleben' Deutcher Verlag, Berlin 1935 pg 32 there is a picture of Udet and others taken when he was about the same age (twenty). He was a man of short stature and was nicknamed 'shorty' (kleiner) by his comrades.

Cheers

Lawrence

His name is in the photo.

Gentlemen:
I disagree with my learned colleages, his name is the over his right shoulder
Off.Stv. Udet. It looks like him, with his name there, I would say it is Udet.
Happy New Year Gentlemen,

Hi Dan, I think they are talking about this photo:

Looking at the photo.. I dont know. Prolly not. Imho. The pecking order appears to read right to left in the image. Pilot, observer, mechanic..

Thanks Tim.

Gentlemen:
I wish to correct my statement. The individual on the left is not Ernst Udet. I fully agree withmy colleages.
