Engines for the 80% scale SE5a

I am interested in learning what engines people have installed, or plan to install, into the Replica Plans 80% scale SE5a.

The gwfm's SE originally had a C-85 which was changed out to a Lycoming 0-235 and I believe that this is a common choice but I would like to learn what has/is being used and how the aircraft performs.

Regards,
John

Did you pick up that project yet?

I vote for the most HP you can shove under the cowl. Would an 0-320, 160hp fit?

You know... the Corvair conversion has more grunt and less weight than the C85. And a LOT cheaper.

Vet,
SShhhh! I don't want anyone to know that I think of anything other than Fokker.

Picked it up a couple of weeks ago and was pleased to see that the workmanship is as good as you said. Not sure that I'll persue the 215ci Buick path the original builder had in mind although it would be interesting as the unit is about 80% in output and size.

I suspect that a lot of the fun of one of these aircraft is formatting with others and terrorizing neighbouring fields. That being the case, you'd want to have similar flight envelopes and I believe the engine choice will have a lot to do with that.

Thanks for your help and willingness to run to far off Lake Seneca for an inspection.

Regards,
John

While not an SE5, folks seem to have a lot of nice things to say about the 110 hp 4 cyl Geo/Suzuki used in scale Spad/D7 replicas.
