Middle East pilots?

Can anyone describe what a pilot wore while flying in the Middle East? Was a coat or jacket or coveralls of some type used? I know it was hot on the ground but colder up in the air and the desert nights are cold. Any photo's available? Thanks for your consideration.

I will ask over at the European WW-I living history forum.

You might check at Living History Worldwide as well. And Leichester Tiger is pretty smart about this kind fo thing as well.

A member there had this to offer:
"I would imagine someone at the RAF Museum in Hendon would have an answer for you. The RAF Stores hold pretty much all of the uniforms from RFC to present day." They suggested contacting the Stores as they may even be able to get you a picture.

My Gallery
Maybe

John -

I have a couple of small albums from an RFC pilot who flew in Egypt. Let me see if I can come up with something for you. IIRC flight gear was minimal - light short/pants, hemlet goggles. I'll see if I can get something scanned to post.

My Gallery
Here ya go

John -

From an album of an unnamed pilot assigned to Heliopolis (Cairo), Egypt. IIRC #5 School of Aerial Fighting, but don't hold me to that - suffice it to say it was probably typical of the Middle East assignments.

This one was captioned "Dressed as we often used to fly"

I also found a couple of shots is Sidcot suits so I suppose it eventually got chilly flying in your shorts and shirt sleeves.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Middle East

Thanks a ton guy's, so I guess this would not be accurate attire for a Middle East Pilot? What would you say the suit or coat is drapped over the bottom wing in this photo? I am building this subject as a 1/3 scale R/C model in case you haven't seen my build posts in the "Flying Models" forum. This Vickers F.B. 19 MKII was with 111 Sqn. Middle East.
