Welcome to my Nieuport 28 wip. Not sure what will happen here but it might be cool. Check it out! =P
So the N.28 has been on my build list for a while now....it's a plane I really find appealing and pleasing to the eye. Its clean and simple lines just do it for me I guess =D I've also been wanting to learn more about Americas pilots and their exploits. So the n.28 is a perfect project for a long needed break from dinking around with my never ending E.III build. I'm sure sick of that thing!!! So again...this has been a great break from all things Fokker.
My n.28 model is being built using Maya and has been pretty much straight poly modeled. Meaning that I start with primitives (pre made shapes) ..like a cube or a cylinder and simply start to shape to my hearts content. =) Also I use a line tool...similar to what you'd find in PhotoShop to extrude more complex shapes. There's nothing really intense as far as shapes go with the n.28 and it really lends its self well to using the geometries edges for useful effect....depending on how you arrange your normals and smoothing groups you can let the edges do the work.
The model is pretty well along as you'll see. About 2 weeks from research start till now...arggh I had to make some vickers guns too.... but it's gone pretty well. The cockpit is sparse at the moment as I'm not sure to what level of detail I will finish this out to. I might have enough to get by now.
Next up will be to tweak the engine to the proper type, UV map the model and texture it. Once completed, I'll add a pilot and animate it for a test shot. I want to use the model for some still renders as well as a animation sequence. I intend to map and texture this using Z Brush 4.....it'll be cool =)
so yeah..blah blah..techie nerdy nonsense ... here are some screenies =D
Never mind the jagglies...these are screen grabs right out of Maya...no pretty renderings.
