Many years ago I obtained a copy of the photo immediately below, and my notes are silent on the source. I have the vague notion, though, that perhaps it was in one or more versions of
Ernst Udet's autobiography. Certainly the man on the right is Udet, and the man on the left is purportedly Kurt Grasshoff. However, I've come to question whether this is, in fact, Grasshoff, based on other photos I have of him (which follow the Udet photo below).
My question is based largely on noticing that in the known photos of Grasshoff, his hair is parted on the left side of his head. But in photo with Udet, the other fellow's hair appears to be parted on the right side of his head. Also, the jaw and chin of Grasshoff appear (at least to me) to be narrower than that of the other man in the Udet photo.
I'd be interested in knowing what others might think of this.
